Gadget Pain: T-Mobile G1

My Gadget pain continues this week with My T-Mobile G1 being the latest gadget to cause me anguish.
So the day after my W70 met its demise my G1 started giving me problems.

I fire up the G1, the pattern unlock screen comes up,
it doesn't accept my touch input, I reboot
No input being recognised by the touchscreen,
battery out, give it 25 seconds, visualising the evil cache dying with the lack of battery, reboot,
nothing!

Try and trick it to let me in to the homescreen by sending a message to my phone, message appears, no homescreen.

Try calling it and start to worry as the phone vibrates and rings continuously (not going to voicemail) without displaying the name of the caller.

Conclude it is a software issue after the phone doesn't accept calls.

Decide on a Hard Reset and do the following

1. Turn the G1 off.  If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.
2. Hold the Home and Powerkeys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.
Now to wipe the device clean:
3. Press Alt+L.
4. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
5. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

Am now faced with the following screen

Touch the Android, touchscreen still not working, nothing happens,
Touch the Android again, still nothing, maybe it was hardware
Access wireless settings that appear under the menu button for some reason, try and access the homescreen from there, nothing
Try calling the G1, goes to voicemail
Touch the Android again
Hit the Android
Punch the Android

Suddenly realise I now have a T-Mobile Paperweight and start to write this post

Hit the Android again
